The Washington Design Center's First Annual Market Day

Yesterday was Market Day at the Washington Design Center and I was able to attend the full day of activities. It was a full house with celebrity designers, magazine editors, press and local designers. Today I am sharing moments captured from the day's events, as well as some of my favorite spaces designed by the keynote speakers.

The day started with a reception and meet and greet with Architectural Digest Editor, Margaret Russell, at Holly Hunt and was followed by a keynote address by Thomas O'Brien. Thomas discussed his love of natural and beautiful things with the crowd before hosting a book signing and lunch at Century, through which he has licensed a line of furniture.

"So many times with clients, I am trying to make their homes real and not just for decoration." - Thomas O'Brien

"I really do believe in this idea of making necessary things, beautiful, and beautiful things, natural." - Thomas O'Brien

Century also handed out a lovely paper pamphlet with a few notes, sketches and photos of finished pieces Thomas O'Brien designed for his collection with the company.

Pamphlet that included several photos, notes

and sketches outlining O'Brien's design process

with Century.

After mingling with a few new and old faces and grabbing a bite to eat at Century, I attended a keynote address by Celerie Kemble, who discussed her design style and ability to mix whimsy and formality into her projects.

Next, I was excited to be front row at the Kravet presentation. Scott Kravet, Executive Vice President of Product Development for Kravet Inc., presented the latest fabrics from AERIN, Barbara Berry, Kate Spade, Brunschwig & Fils, GP& J Baker and Parish Hadley.

I was able to hear Paul Sherrill, along with Charlotte Moss and Lindsey Coral Harper, speak on 'Decorating With Carpets' at Stark. I also was able to film an on-camera interview with Editor At Large regarding my thoughts on the days events. Three words: fun, fun, fun.

My last event of the day was 'Cocktails and Conversations with Sophie Donelson and Tilton Fenwick'. I loved hearing Anne and Suysel talk about growing their business and their approach to work and family. I also love Sophie's honesty and sense of humor as she interviewed the pair and interjected pieces of her own experiences as Editor-in-Chief of one of the industry's top magazines, House Beautiful.
